A wonderful story of second chances...I really enjoyed reading this book - something I say whenever I read a Stefanie London book, but it’s true.”

Eventually it felt like they were moving closer, hips brushing, hands lingering. The music played on and on while the sun dropped low in the sky outside and Sage found her world shrinking to only this moment. It was like everything else melted away—the music, the past, her insecurities, her career woes. Everything.

“See, you’re a great dancer,” he said, his voice husky. “I knew it was in there.”

“Hardly.” She dragged her gaze away for a second.

“You undersell yourself, Sage. With everything.” He shook his head.

“I think I adequately sell myself,” she replied. “Not everybody can be amazing.”

It was a sad truth that most people didn’t want to believe. Not everybody could be the star, the standout, the number one. In fact, the world was mostly full of ordinary people like her. Sure, she was exceptionally talented with a needle and thread. But beyond that? She was average. Unremarkable. Forgettable.

“Bullshit,” he said.

Her breath hitched, their electric energy shimmering like tiny fragments of crystal. The way he looked at her—so intimate, so full of longing, tinged blue with regret—was like drinking a glass of champagne too quickly. It made her feel light-headed, dizzy, free.

“I think you’re amazing,” he said. “I always have.”

His words, though quietly spoken, were like snapping a thread with two hands. Jamie leaned forward, sliding his palm along her jaw and around to cup the back of her head. She didn’t resist. Their noses brushed and her lips parted, her desire free-flowing.

They hovered for a moment, ready to drown in anticipation, and Sage let her eyes flutter shut, blotting out the light. Jamie’s warm breath brushed over her skin, followed by the soft yet firm pressure of his lips. Her hands caught his shirt, curling so she could tug him closer as his tongue darted across the seam of her mouth, encouraging her to open to it. And she did.

Her whole body pulsed with sensation. A sigh rose up from deep inside her, and she leaned farther forward while Jamie’s hands began to explore her body. He skimmed over her shoulders and down her arms, tracing the dip at her waist and the flare over her hips. It was so good to be touched. To be learned and understood.

This was what she’d dreamed of all those years ago.

And where did that end up, huh? Happily-ever-after? Yeah right.

Her inner voice jolted her back to reality. What did she think she was doing? Kissing Jamie would lead nowhere good. At a minimum, it would cause awkwardness at Emma’s wedding, which was not a very sisterly thing to do. At worst, if she fell for Jamie again…

That’s not going to happen.

Sage had faced enough drama and ridicule lately. She certainly didn’t need to pile on by opening her heart up to anyone from this town, especially him.

“I uh…well, yes…” She stepped backwards, her words coming out jerky and tight. “Thanks for your help, James[GD2] .”

He raised an eyebrow. “James?”

“Good dancing.” She patted him on the chest and wanted to curse herself for being such an awkward turtle. “See you at the dance studio.”

Without giving him a chance to respond, she rushed toward the front door, teetering in her high heels as her ankles wobbled precariously. She was halfway down his driveway before she realized she’d left her sandals behind, but there was no way she was going back for them now. Not with that kiss lingering in the air and in her mind.

It would be best for them both if she pretended like it never happened.
